Why an Elephant?
The first step of my project was to find an idea. That was to say the hardest part. I went back and forth from idea to idea. I was looking for some different ideas on Google and found the elephant phone holder. From them I was hooked. Didn't know the size on what to make it, but I think it turned out great in the end. I use the curve line and drew a rough sketch. Then over tweaking and adjusting I got everything right.
Steps of Making the Projects
Step 1: This was my rough sketch. To start I had only and idea to go off of. I needed to my an elephant with a big enough trunk to hold an IPhone. I also wanted to make every curve look smooth with no sharp spots.
Step 2: I need to make an eye. I wanted it to be big like a cartoon's eye but not to big like its out of proportion. I also remember that you have enough material on the outer side of the eye. This is so that it won't break.
Step 3: I wanted to make everything smooth. I put a bevel on the edges, to make it smooth. The bevels on the trunk are a little messed up and in the end just taking the them out.
Step 4: When I was done I had to move it into MakerBot. In MakerBot the program changes the size. To change it back you have to change the scale to 1000%. Then the size will go back to normal.
Step 5: This is the final step before printing this is what it looked liked in the preview. I oriented my project so that there is no overhang.
Printing: When printing the hardest part is finding the right color. I wanted something fun and bright. There was red, but that's too basic. Then I saw the blue and I knew that is what I wanted. It took a little less then 8 hours. The only "bad" part that happened was that some of my project got a little burnt when printing.

Summary and final pictures. |
Throughout these past couple of weeks I have been getting more and more comfortable with Inventor. In the start I didn't really know what I was doing. I only really knew the basics. I learned how to use the curve and bevel in Inventor. I think that my skill level was a 3 out of 10 and know I would guess that it is a 5 or a 6 out of 10. Not a big jump but a jump.
